Statement by AUAF's Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees of the American University of Afghanistan wishes to announce that David Sedney has assumed the post of Chair of the Board of Trustees, effective November 26, 2018. Mr. Sedney has been a member of the Board since 2015 and served as the Acting President of AUAF from September, 2016 to June, 2017, leading the rebuilding and reopening of AUAF following the tragic attack on its campus. Mr. Sedney has a long and distinguished career in the US government, including serving as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Central Asia and as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for East Asia. He was Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) at the US Embassies in Kabul, Baku and Beijing. He is currently a Senior Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC and is an analyst, commentator and speaker on national security and foreign policy.
The University and the Board greatly appreciate former Chair Huda Farouki’s devotion and years of service to the American University of Afghanistan and its Board as member and Chair. He has been a strong supporter of AUAF and the education of students in Afghanistan.
